Rural Housing Enablers Programme

We are working in partnership with North Yorkshire Council to support the development of more local affordable rural housing. The Rural Housing Enablers Programme is a Defra funded project, delivered through the ACRE network, which supports Rural Housing Enablers to broker conversations between residents, councils and builders to ensure the housing developed in rural areas meets the needs of local communities.

In North Yorkshire, we are using the funding to support the help development of Rural Exception Sites. A Rural Exception Site is land that would not normally be considered for housing development,  but which can be considered for local homes to meet the needs of local people. We are aiming to work with landowners and communities to identify sites and work with partners to develop high quality homes through small scale schemes.

Do you have land to offer for development?

If you’re a landowner or estate manager with a site that you think would be suitable for affordable homes, please call Amanda Madden for an informal chat on 07572 229098 or drop her an email.

Amanda is working on behalf of Community First Yorkshire in partnership with North Yorkshire Rural Housing Enablers to identify sites to develop affordable housing. She has a wealth of experience in developing rural housing in communities.

Let’s start the conversation

A guide to rural housing in North Yorkshire

You can also browse the free ‘Rural Housing in North Yorkshire’ booklet, which aims to breathe new hope for people who want to remain living where their roots are but who are struggling to find quality housing at a price to suit their budget. The guide identifies what help is available, where to go for support and explains how affordable homes are made available. There are also stories from real people who have been able to find the homes they need with help from their local community.
