The Down to Earth programme – finding wellbeing through nature

9 March 2023

We are working with Where the Mind Grows to create a series of mental health and wellbeing support events. If you work in health and care in the Humber and North Yorkshire region please complete this five minute survey to share your thoughts on what nature based mental health and wellbeing support you would like to see made available in 2023.

The survey will enable participants to co-design the content for a wellbeing training and development programme for people who work in health and care, which will be delivered from April-July this year. We are particularly keen to hear from any men working in health and care who have unmet mental health needs.

The survey is open to everyone working, volunteering or looking after local people in the Humber and North Yorkshire area, including care workers and volunteers. Whatever your role or organisation, we are asking all staff and volunteers to tell us what mental health and wellbeing sessions or events you would like made available to support you mentally in the year ahead.

We know getting mental health care and support isn’t always easy. Processes can be long and complicated and demand on services can mean people sometimes having to wait too long without the help or support they need. Getting the right help and support early on for your mental health and emotional wellbeing can make a huge difference and prevent things from getting worse. A one size fits all approach doesn’t always work for everyone, and a different, nature led approach could help you find the support you need in a different environment.

Examples of the format the nature based activities the events could take are:

  • foraging
  • bushcraft
  • bird of prey handling
  • cafe in nature
  • walk and talk.

The survey asks for information on your general mental and physical health, and challenges for your team/organisational wellbeing and needs. The information provided will help shape support to you and your peers in the health and care service within the voluntary, community and social enterprise VCSE sector in Humber and North Yorkshire.

The survey can be completed here. It will take less than five minutes , and can be done anonymously.  The survey closes on Friday 24 March.
