As North Yorkshire County Councillor for Airedale, many of Patrick’s constituents require the ‘rural voice’ that RAY provides. He believes that by serving as a link between Craven and Rural Action Yorkshire, he can help improve the quality of life for rural communities.
Patrick believes his ‘skill set’ could make a valuable contribution to RAY. Presently at NYCC, is a member of Pension Fund Committee, Audit Committee and the Overview and Scrutiny Committee for Corporate Affairs. Also school governor at St Stephen’s in Skipton, where he has worked extensively as a member of the Finance Committee in expanding the school’s teaching space and keeping finances on a firm footing.
On a persona note, Patrick’s family has an attachment to the rural community of Elslack, near Skipton. An example of the sort of place that needs a ‘voice’ – a closely knit community whose small size often seems to leave it ignored by politicians and government officers.
Patrick believes RAY’s policy of ‘whole community involvement’ can make a vital contribution towards empowering communities such as Elslack throughout Yorkshire. He would like to work with RAY to support and sustain the rural communities that contribute so much to the very character of Yorkshire.
