Role: Marie Curie Helper volunteer
Organisation: Marie Curie
Hours: Weekly visits of up to 3 hours. The service operates 7 days a week from 9am to 9pm (your 3 hour visit will be during these times)
Role Description: Every day of your life matters – from the first to the last. We believe everyone living with a terminal illness should be able to get the most from the time they have left, however hard that may sometimes feel. We are looking for more volunteers to help us achieve this.
Across West Yorkshire, and the Craven district of North Yorkshire, the Marie Curie Helper service offers weekly volunteer visits to people living with a terminal illness and their carer for up to 3 hours. This can also extend to ongoing support in bereavement. These visits may be based in the home and can also include trips out into the community; visiting a park, going for a coffee or exploring a garden centre for example.
This is a befriending role, with no expectation to be involved in clinical or personal care. The aim is to offer companionship and emotional support and help to reduce isolation and loneliness. Having access to a car is not essential but would be an advantage as visits may be to people who are not on a regular bus route. You will be reimbursed 45 pence per mile.
Requirements: Interview, 2 references and enhanced criminal record check (DBS), training
Location: Craven, North Yorkshire and across West Yorkshire
