Neighbourly communities – creating and strengthening connections

Well-connected and supportive communities are vital for reducing loneliness and isolation. North Yorkshire being such a large and rural county makes both loneliness and isolation a real issue, an issue that is prevalent in people of all ages, young and old. The Wider Partnership Conference aims to find better ways of connecting communities to tackle this emerging theme.

Confirmed speakers include:

  • Trevor Hopkins, Asset Based Consulting
  • Kim Leadbeater, Jo Cox Foundation
  • Dr Lincoln Sargeant, Director of Public Health for North Yorkshire

Delegates will also be able to participate in related workshops (see below) and visit stalls from a range of organisations in the exhibition area.

Workshop topics:

  • Children and Young People: Workshop leads – Elizabeth McPherson, Scarborough and Ryedale Carers Resource, and Helen Hunter, Hambleton and Richmondshire Carers Centre
  • Older people : Workshop lead – Sue Bradley, Age UK North Craven
  • What works in North Yorkshire: Workshop lead – Jan Garrill, Two Ridings Community Foundation
  • The role of technology: Workshop leads – Robert Ling and Marie-Ann Jackson, North Yorkshire County Council
  • Geography and loneliness – Rural, urban and coastal issues: Workshop leads – Leah Swain, Community First Yorkshire and David Sharp, North Yorkshire Youth
  • The role of health and social care: Workshop leads – Loraine Boyd, retired GP, Siobhan Gorman, GP practice manager, and Linda White, Living Well, North Yorkshire County Council

2018’s NYCC Community Awards will also be  presented at the conference.
