York: Leadership: OU Learning Club – Introducing Leadership in Voluntary Organisations
January 29 @ 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm
at Jacob’s Well, Trinity Lane, York YO1 6EL
Registration is from 3.30 pm to 4.00 pm
The Open University’s Centre for Voluntary Sector Leadership offers free online leadership courses that provide an opportunity for people who work within voluntary organisations to develop energetic, practical and thoughtful leadership practice.
The OU and Community First Yorkshire’s Leadership Hub are launching a North Yorkshire learning club in the New Year for participants in North Yorkshire to start and finish the online Introducing Leadership in Voluntary Organisations course together and share their learning.
The informal club will meet up between February and March 2020 in central York to enable participants from North Yorkshire who are studying the course online to discuss each other’s learning in practice. By starting and finishing together, and meeting and sharing face-to-face, you will support each other’s learning along the way, and broaden your peer network.
Join us at the launch event for the Introducing Leadership in Voluntary Organisations learning club on 29 January 2020, 4-5.30 pm at Jacob’s Well, a 15th-century house in central York. Meet others who are interested in participating and find out how this short course can help you to understand the contribution leadership can make to your role and your organisation and how to use the learning club to put your learning into practice.
Who should attend?
The Introducing Leadership open access course is suitable for emerging leaders, service and project delivery managers, staff and volunteer team leaders, community leaders, leaders who are new in post, or anyone who wants to learn more about taking a leadership approach in their organisation.
What is included?
Refreshments will be provided.
Meet the Open University team at the event:
Dr Carol Jacklin-Jarvis, co-author of the Introducing Leadership course, will provide an overview of the approach and content, what you will take away, and how to use your learning within your organisation.
Fidèle Mutwarasibu will talk about how to get the most out of the online course and the learning club.
Carol spent over 20 years working in public and voluntary organisations before returning to academia. Carol was a member of the Lloyds Bank Foundation funded research The Value of Small that explored the specific contribution of smaller voluntary organisations. She is co-author of CVSL’s open access courses on leadership in the voluntary sector, author of an undergraduate block on Collaborative Leadership, and contributor to the OU’s new module on Leadership in a Changing World.
Fidèle has worked in the voluntary sector for over 25 years. His experience includes working in community development (Rwanda); emergency and relief (Democratic Republic of Congo); research, community engagement, equality and anti-discrimination, fundraising, programme management, and policy and advocacy (Ireland).
