York: Leadership: Beacon – Being an Effective Chair and Building Your Board Team

Are you a Chair or Vice Chair of a charity, non-profit or community organisation in North Yorkshire?
Are you keen to develop your leadership skills in 1:1 and team working with your trustee board and executive team?
Community First Yorkshire is teaming up with the Association of Chairs to offer an opportunity to access the national Beacon programme right here in North Yorkshire.
Two of the most popular courses are being combined to provide a full-day workshop for voluntary and community organisation board leaders. Please join us to develop your skills, make new contacts and share your experiences.
Who should attend?
This workshop is for Chairs and Vice Chairs of voluntary and community organisations in North Yorkshire with an annual income of under £1 million.
What will participants learn?
Being an Effective Chair’ will help you to be able to:
- Be clear about your role and legal responsibilities
- Understand what can help you to be effective
- Have practical tools to help you run effective meetings
- Have gained insight and top tips from other Chairs of smaller organisations
Developing an Effective Board Team’ will help you to be able to:
- Enable your board to work well together
- Manage conflict and support difficult conversations
- Gain insights and top tips from other Chairs of smaller organisations
What is included?
Refreshments and a networking sandwich lunch are provided. Please advise the Association of Chairs when you book if you have any dietary needs.

The Association of Chairs offers a travel bursary to delegates from organisations with an annual income of under £100k when booking at least a month ahead. These bursaries are given on a first come, first served, basis.

Getting there and parking –
The Priory Street Centre is on Priory Street, off Micklegate in central York. The venue is a short walk from Nunnery Lane car park and York Railway Station. A bus route from Askham Bar Park and Ride stops in nearby Blossom Street.
