POSCH is a very small fledgling charity that has reached an exciting point of development having just achieved charitable status this year. We run local parent support groups across Hambleton and Richmondshire for parents who have at least one children of any age who has a special educational need or a disability – all our groups are parent and volunteer led. In fact, we are all volunteers. We don’t employ anyone and we don’t rent or own an office. We run POSCH from our own homes with groups and events held in local public venues.
We urgently need committed and skilled volunteers NOW to join us to become Trustees of our new Board.
We meet just 6 times each year but as we don’t have staff, you do need to expect to take on some tasks between meetings. You will be able to stay with us for at least one year to help us to achieve some of our aspirations and ambitions.
You will be joining a very friendly and passionate group of people who really want to make POSCH a success and see it become a sustainable and viable model for supporting parents well into the future.
Ideally you will be a parent yourself or have a background in special educational needs or disabilities – AND/OR – you will have a key skill that we need to help us to shape our future.
Specific skills we are looking for are: financial management or higher level book-keeping, leadership and administrative organisation, marketing and communications, experience of being involved in a charity or the educational or disability system in North Yorkshire either as a parent or professional.
If you have one or more of these skills we would like to hear from you.

POSCH was established in 2015 by a small group of parents with one thing in common – they all had at least one child with a special educational need or disability (SEND) – and they all felt that there was a lack of support for parents who are also taking on the dual role of caring.
Having a child with a special educational need or disability can be full of the highs of the joys of parenthood and equally be full of the lows: emotional challenge, exhaustion and trying to navigate a complicated educational and disability system.
POSCH provides friendly and informative parent support sessions to any parent who has a child with a SEND. Meetings are based in local venues in as many places as possible, according to our funds and time available. Currently we have groups in Stokesley, Northallerton, Bedale and Colburn.
All group leaders are parents of a child with a SEND – and they are all volunteers.
POSCH became a Charitable Incorporated Organisation in 2018. This has been a huge achievement for us. We have a simple funding strategy and development plan in place that we are working to fulfil, and we have a great website. Go and take a look at www.posch.org.uk
