Northallerton and District ME Support Group are urgently looking for new committee members to help keep the group going beyond September.
The Secretary and Chair of the group have recently relocated and retired and without a new Secretary and Chair the group, the only one of its kind in North Yorkshire, will have to close after nearly 25 years.
Gill Fawcett, the group’s Treasurer, became a member of the group over 20 years ago after seeing an article in the Darlington and Stockton Times. She became the group’s Treasurer nine years ago.
‘I originally saw the group were looking for members and thought I could help. I am really hoping we can find some new committee members who will join me and help keep the group running. The support group provides information and mutual support for people who have ME and other chronic fatigue conditions, their families and carers. We haven’t been able to meet in recent months but are hoping to be able to restart our small friendly group meetings on the first Monday of the month in Northallerton Methodist Church Cottage Room, once we know if the group is able to continue. We know these meetings and the chance for a chat and a cuppa are a lifeline and often the only time group members manage to get out and meet others. Time commitment as a committee member is about 2 – 4 hours a month with meetings usually taking place before or after Monday sessions but this can be flexible’.
