Safeguarding is everybody’s business

Safeguarding means protecting an adult’s right to live in safety, free from abuse and neglect.

We’re supporting this year’s Safeguarding Adults Week 2024 (18-22 November), which focusses on the theme ‘Working in Partnership’.

Safeguarding Adults Week, run by the  Ann Craft Trust, is a time for organisations to come together to raise awareness of important safeguarding issues. The week aims to enable more organisations and individuals to feel confident in recognising signs of abuse and neglect and recording and reporting safeguarding concerns.

Each day of the week will have a different theme:

  • Monday – Look, Listen, Ask – Developing Professional Curiosity
  • Tuesday – Working in partnership: How to work effectively with the people you support
  • Wednesday – Establishing Professional Boundaries
  • Thursday – Recognising exploitation: The ladder of criminality
  • Friday – Professional and Organisational Learning

Resources

Safeguarding can sometimes feel overwhelming, especially for new organisations, but it doesn’t have to be.

We’ve gathered together some useful resources  to support colleagues in the sector working with children and adults to ensure service users, volunteers and paid staff are safe from harm.

VCSE safeguarding assessment checklist

This checklist and resources guide (which we developed with Hambleton Community Action) has been produced to support colleagues in the sector working with children and adults to ensure that service users, volunteers and paid staff are safe from harm.

The checklist will help you create a policy and procedure that reflects the needs of your organisation and service users.
