Role: More Than Books Volunteer
Organisation: More Than Books – Eastfield Library
Role Description: More Than Books is a charity that runs Eastfield Library for the local community. Our volunteers keep the library open and welcoming for people to borrow books, use computers and meet to share activities and experiences.
In April 2017 More Than Books took over the running of Eastfield Library and started to turn it into a Community Hub.
In April 2018 we are delighted to announce that we have secured a grant from local funding organisations to develop further with a focus on Wellbeing, with new events designed to get people socialising, learning new skills and improving their health.
We will be arranging events and activities for all sections of the community with the following aims:
– Opportunities to meet people
– Take up a new hobby
– Learn to do something new online
– Help other people
– Get more active
– Give something back to the community
What are we looking for?
Are you considering a new activity to get you out of the house, learn skills to help get a job, or just to make a few new friends? We are always looking for people to join our family of volunteers who work together to welcome everyone into the library, whether they want to borrow books, use the computers, find out something or just have coffee and a chat.
Our volunteers are all different – many are book lovers, some like the challenge of keeping the shelves tidy, others enjoy helping the people who come in wanting some assistance to do something on the computer.
No experience or qualifications are needed, just a willingness to learn about the library and the community. It is a supportive, friendly environment; serving customers without the pressure of selling.
Training you undertake with us will provide a certificate showing what you have learnt, and the work will give valuable experience to add to your CV.
