The results of the November 2020 Voluntary & Community Sector (VCS) Resilience Survey reveals that concerns over financial pressures and volunteer shortages are causing many charities in North Yorkshire to feel uncertain about their future.
Almost a quarter of survey respondents were unsure as to whether they would stay open beyond March 2021.
Over a third of organisations have needed to use their financial reserves since March 2020 in order to survive, with a quarter of these using as much as 100% of their reserves.
Almost half of the organisations who responded rely on volunteers to deliver their services. However, they have reported a severe decrease in volunteer numbers by almost half as many of their volunteers need to stay at home because of the coronavirus. Without support from volunteers to deliver their services, these organisations face an uncertain future.
The critical message from the survey is that those organisations who have not sought support seem to be more likely to struggle in the future.
